T4A Reporting Policy for Care Providers

Introduction

Purpose

This policy outlines the requirement for issuing T4A tax slips to Care Providers using the Carelancer platform and highlights the importance of tax compliance. It ensures that all earnings are properly reported to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and that Care Providers have clear guidelines on how to access their tax documents.

Policy Statement

Carelancer is required by the CRA to issue T4A slips to Care Providers who earn $500 or more per calendar year on the platform. These slips summarize the total earnings received and are used for tax filing purposes. T4A slips are issued annually and submitted to both the provider and the CRA.

Care Providers are responsible for reporting their self-employment income and filing their own taxes in accordance with CRA regulations.

T4A Issuance & Access

T4A tax slips will be generated and made available as follows:

  • Threshold for Issuance: Care Providers earning $500 or more per year on Carelancer will receive a T4A.

  • Availability Date: T4A slips will be issued by January 31th each year for the previous calendar year’s earnings.

  • Accessing T4A Slips: Care Providers can download their T4A from the Tax Documents section in their Carelancer account.

  • Notification: Providers will receive an email once their T4A slip is available.

Proof of Personal Information for Tax Reporting

To ensure accurate tax reporting, Care Providers must provide and maintain updated tax information, including:

  • Legal Name & Address: Must match CRA records.

  • Social Insurance Number (SIN): Required for reporting to CRA (collected securely and encrypted).

  • Earnings Summary: Viewable in the provider’s account dashboard.

Non-Compliance & Impact

Failure to provide required tax information may result in the following actions:

  1. Reminder Notice: Care Providers will receive a notification requesting updated tax details.

  2. Delayed T4A Issuance: Missing information may result in delays in tax slip processing.

  3. Account Restrictions: Failure to provide tax details may lead to restricted access to earnings and payouts until compliance is met.
