Nondiscrimination Policy for Carelancer
Carelancer is committed to creating an inclusive and respectful community that brings together care providers and care seekers from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. Our mission is to foster meaningful connections and ensure that everyone feels welcome and valued on our platform, regardless of their origins, beliefs, identity, or preferences. By joining Carelancer as a care provider or care seeker, you become an integral part of this community, and we expect all members, including Carelancer employees, care providers, and care seekers, to adhere to the following policy to promote a safe and harmonious environment.
Inclusion
Carelancer celebrates diversity and welcomes individuals from all walks of life with an open mind, whether as care provider or care seeker. Discrimination, prejudice, racism, or hatred have no place in our community. Carelancer users are required to comply with all applicable laws that prohibit discrimination based on factors such as race, religion, national origin, and others listed below, in addition to respecting the principles and requirements of this policy.
Respect
At Carelancer, we place great importance on fostering respectful interactions and encounters among all members of our community. We understand that cultural norms and local laws can differ significantly, and we expect both care providers and care seekers to respect their respective local laws and engage with each other in a courteous manner, even in the face of differing views. By bringing together care providers and care seekers from diverse backgrounds, we aim to promote greater understanding and appreciation for the common traits that unite us all as human beings, while actively challenging prejudice that stems from misconceptions or misunderstandings.
Clear Communication
Care providers and care seekers should engage in clear communication to ensure mutual understanding and provide accurate information. Open dialogue allows for the best matching of care providers to meet the needs of care seekers.
Prohibited Discrimination
Care providers and care seekers are prohibited from engaging in discriminatory practices based on the following factors:
● Race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation or marital status
● Gender identity (unless considerations based on the nature of the care required by the care seeker reasonably apply)
● Age or familial status (where prohibited by law)
● Disability
As a care provider or care seeker, you must not discriminate against others based on the above factors. Discriminatory practices include, without limitation, declining to provide or receive services, imposing different terms or conditions, or making statements in a job listing or other user content that discourage or indicate preferences for or against individuals based on these factors. Notwithstanding the foregoing, in the event that a care seeker or care provider reasonably feels uncomfortable in engaging with a person of a different gender, based on the nature of the services required by the care seeker, such practices will not be considered discriminatory.
Personal Preferences
Care providers and care seekers may exercise reasonable personal preferences within legal boundaries. However, any personal preferences must be clearly communicated in listings, profiles, or service requests. We encourage open communication and reasonable accommodations between care seekers and care providers to ensure that care services meet the needs of care seekers.
Consequences of Non-Compliance
If a Carelancer user violates this nondiscrimination policy, they will be requested to remove any discriminatory language and affirm their understanding and commitment to comply with this policy. Carelancer reserves the right to take appropriate actions, including but not limited to restricting or suspending the account of a user who consistently demonstrates a pattern of discrimination against protected groups, as it undermines the strength of our community.
Guidance for Specific Jurisdictions
Carelancer recognizes that different jurisdictions may have specific legal requirements regarding discrimination. Care providers and care seekers are expected to familiarize themselves with and comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws related to nondiscrimination in the context of care services.
By adhering to this policy, we can collectively create a caring and inclusive community, ensuring that all members of the Carelancer community are treated with respect, without facing discrimination.
