Verification Policy for Nurses and Personal Support Workers (PSWs)
Purpose
Carelancer is committed to fostering a safe and secure environment for both Care Providers and Care Seekers on our platform. This policy outlines the annual background check and verification procedures required for all Care Providers to ensure a trusted and reliable community.
This policy applies to all nurses and personal support workers (PSWs) using the Carelancer platform and sets forth the required verification and compliance processes.
Policy Statement
All Care Providers must complete identity verification, background checks, and certification and/or license verification in accordance with their professional status. Carelancer conducts these verifications annually through ISB Global Services (ISB), a third-party background screening provider.
All verification processes comply with applicable Canadian laws and regulations, including:

The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA)

Provincial Health Regulatory Bodies (e.g., CNO, BCCNM, CLPNA, etc.)

Industry standards for background checks and credential verification
Professional Status and Verification Requirements
Nurses (RN, RPN, LPN)

Annual background check (criminal record check, vulnerable sector screening)

Verification of nursing license with the relevant provincial regulatory body

Identification verification
Personal Support Workers (PSWs)

Annual background check (criminal record check, vulnerable sector screening)

Verification of PSW certification from a recognized Canadian institution

Identification verification
Personal Support Workers/Health Care Aides (CANSWA or OPSWA Membership)

Annual confirmation of active membership with CANSWA or OPSWA
Personal Support Workers/Health Care Aides (Non-Canadian PSW Certification)

Any costs incurred for credential recognition are the responsibility of the provider

Verification Process
1) ISB Global Services (ISB) conducts all background checks and credential verifications on behalf of Carelancer.
2) Care Providers must submit required documents through ISB’s verification system.
3) Upon successful verification, Care Providers receive a digital badge confirming their verified status.
4) If a Care Provider fails verification or does not comply, their account may be suspended or removed.
Appeal Process for Failed Verification

If a Care Provider disputes the verification outcome, they may submit an appeal within [X] business days of receiving notification.

Appeals must include supporting documentation (e.g., proof of certification, police check records).

Annual Renewal & Compliance

Failure to complete verification may result in account suspension until compliance is met.
Confidentiality & Data Security

All personal and professional information collected for verification is stored securely and handled in compliance with Canadian data protection laws, including:

Enforcement & Consequences

Providing false or misleading information during the verification process will result in immediate removal from the platform.

Care Providers who fail to complete their annual verification may have their accounts deactivated until compliance is met.

Carelancer reserves the right to update verification requirements in response to regulatory changes or industry best practices.

Carelancer is not responsible for errors, delays, or inaccuracies in third-party background checks performed by ISB Global Services (ISB).

Care Providers are responsible for ensuring their credentials remain valid and up to date in accordance with Canadian nursing and PSW regulations.
